direct action: Doing something in response to an event in order to change the outcome. Actions include things like walkouts if a fellow worker is fired, wildcat strikes, reducing work time regardless of company policy. "The logic of direct action is simple enough. If we stop doing what we are told to do and start doing what we collectively decide to do instead, there isn't anything much that can stop us. The I.W.W. expects to build a decent world in that simple way." Source: https://archive.iww.org/about/official/OBU/19/

IWW: Industrial Workers of the World. "The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) is a labor union representing nearly 9000 workers across North America. Established in 1905, the IWW is known for its high standards of democracy, transparency, multinationalism, and active use of the right to strike. The IWW is a general union that is open to workers from all industries and companies, rather than just one organization or particular sector. The IWW promotes the creation of "One Big Union" and contends that all workers should be united as a social class to supplant capitalism and wage labor with industrial democracy." NLRB: National Labor Relations Board. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is an independent federal agency created in 1935 and vested with the power to safeguard employees’ rights to organize, engage with one another to seek better working conditions, choose whether or not to have a collective bargaining representative negotiate on their behalf with their employer, or refrain from doing so. Third Partying / 3rd Partying: 3rd partying is a union busting tactic. Company bosses will call our union "a third party", someone other than us workers, who will get in the middle of our relationship and conversations and make it harder to facilitate change and move quickly. They'll claim that this 3rd Party has their own interests, and won't actually be looking out for us. This is false. We workers are the union. There is no 3rd party. We are our union.
A classic line that CEOs use is "A union will come between management and workers, making it harder for management to address issues." This implies that the union and the workers are separate entities.
union: A labor union is a group of two or more employees who join together to advance common interests such as wages, benefits, schedules and other employment terms and conditions. Unions are membership-driven, democratic organizations governed by laws that require financial transparency and integrity, fair elections and other democratic standards, and fair representation of all workers.
